Quantum computers will break today's encryption. Your keys need to survive.
Pramatra Space delivers quantum-generated cryptographic keys from satellite orbit to banks, grid operators and government networks -- using photon physics that no compute power can defeat.
How quantum key distribution works
Three stages -- governed by quantum mechanics, not software assumptions.
Orbital photon transmission
As the satellite passes within line-of-sight, it fires a stream of single photons, each polarized according to the BB84 protocol. Any interception attempt disturbs the quantum states and is immediately detectable.
Quantum key reconciliation
Ground stations capture photon polarization events during the pass window. After the pass, classical reconciliation over an authenticated channel distills a shared random bit string -- provably known only to the two endpoints and unguessable by any third party.
| Photon | Alice basis | Bob basis | Measurement | Key bit? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | + | + | 0 | KEEP |
| 2 | + | x | 1 | DISCARD |
| 3 | x | x | 1 | KEEP |
| 4 | x | + | 0 | DISCARD |
Encrypted key delivery
The reconciled key is forwarded to your integration endpoint via mutual-TLS API within the same orbital pass window. Your application consumes quantum-randomness-derived key material without modifying existing cryptographic infrastructure.
What the pilot numbers show
AES-256 equivalent, quantum-random number generator verified per delivery cycle
Pilot programme average, existing PKI infrastructure
Financial services, energy grid operations, government networks
Built for the sectors that cannot wait
Three buyer verticals with distinct regulatory exposure and threat profiles.
"The quantum threat to our settlement networks is not a ten-year problem. Adversaries are archiving our traffic today. Pramatra Space gave our CISO a credible path to post-quantum readiness on a deployment timeline the board could approve."
"Our SCADA authentication infrastructure was built when RSA-2048 was considered unbreakable. That assumption no longer holds. The pilot integration required no changes to our existing operational technology -- only the key source changed."
"Sovereign key material that originates outside any terrestrial network boundary is a category requirement for us. Satellite-based QKD is the only distribution method that satisfies it without reliance on a foreign infrastructure layer."
From the organisations in early access
"The quantum threat to encryption is not theoretical -- nation-state actors have already begun harvesting encrypted traffic. Pramatra Space gave our board a concrete implementation path to post-quantum readiness without waiting for new hardware standards to mature."
"Our operational technology networks were designed in an era when public-key cryptography was considered mathematically unbreakable. The Pramatra Space pilot showed us a practical migration path that did not require ripping out existing infrastructure or retraining operations staff."
